One of my favorite caseback engravings of all time is my taupe Wideboy Datejust from 1978. It reads: "Rudy J. Cypser, IBM Quarter Century Award, July 1, 1978." Dr. Cypser was an MIT PhD who earned this Rolex after his service at IBM for 25 years back when IBM still offered a Rolex as a perk for employee loyalty. You may read about Dr. Cypser here: Obituary of Rudolph J. Cypser | Clark Associates Funeral Home. I purchased this watch from his family's estate. It has been an absolutely incredible experience owning Dr. Cypser's Datejust. I stumbled upon this watch by pure accident when I was searching for this Wideboy color to complete my Wideboy collection.

Who knows who owned my incredible Day-Date from 1972. Whoever "WMN" was, he surely was a powerful (and wealthy) person back in 1972 who rarely wore his Texas Timex. It was never serviced when I bought it from a dealer in 2018. To honor Mr. WMN, I left his initials on the caseback untouched and have no plans to alter it.

My Omega Deep Blue has my favorite caseback of all time. I adore the HUGE hippocampus logo. It looks absolutely incredible. This beats a see-through caseback any day in my book. @prajaofetra @Grindaur

@Daven here’s a photo of my incredible Seiko Sea Lion caseback. It’s one of the main reasons why I purchased this watch.

The other thing about the caseback you may not realize, I have a bunch of old Seikos that have this as well-- apparently the "horseshoe" on the caseback is kind of a big deal. That never occurred to me until I read that a while back; for all I know, it may have been some BS by a seller puffing up his old piece for sale.

It has become a trademark Seiko feature in my mind. In fact, it has gotten to the point where I tend to avoid pieces without it, lol.

Hear-hear! However, when I'd be purchasing, I don't think a "no-horseshoe" caseback would be a disqualifying factor if I really liked the watch.

I got it out of its safe place to snap the case back. It started ticking so I carefully set the day date and time and will wear it as i have missed it.
Its been 6wks to 2 months since i wore it last.

It’s good to get those oils moving inside the movement.
