I think this is a pretty polarizing question. I have heard collectors fall strongly into either camp.

For casual wear, I will allow my mood dictate my watch choice: whether it’s a sports watch or dress watch, either choice would suffice if I am wearing shorts and/or a t-shirt.

However, my watch choice becomes more difficult in a formal situation if I am wearing a suit or dress shirt. In these cases, I lean more heavily towards a dress watch, but have also worn divers.

How much does your outfit play a role in your choice of wrist watch to wear?

All my watches are stainless/silver to match my wedding and pinky rings.

I match my strap to my boots and belt.

It is an accessory and piece of jewelry. It's supposed to match and change based upon your other items of clothing. I have a diver on a black rubber strap for daily wear, one I wear to church (black leather), and one I wear when I'm out (brown leather).

Cool take. What do you match your dial and bezel colors to?

Along with what mood I'm in, yes I try to match what I wear. I treat watches as jewellery and I change all my jewellery every day except earings which stay in for a while, I also change fragrance everyday.

My daily wear is a Turtle with black face, black bezel, and a black rubber strap. My Kinetic with brown leather strap has a yellow/white dial with a stainless bezel and my Seiko with the black leather strap has a dark grey dial.

Both sides of the coin here .

I wear clothing made by alternative designers, such as Westwood,BOY, Damage Society etc so I like to have watches on that either match or actually clash with them which I think can look great if you're wearing those types of threads...I also like seeing people wearing tailored formal suits with colourful watches manufactured by quality watchmakers (and not those horrible fashion brands out there) that's a good look for me personally,I've always admired that in particular .
